Los Rieleros del Norte is one of the oldest norteo bands still active since 1979 to date. The band uses both the saxophone and accordion in their song, creating a dual-instrument hybrid. All of the band's original members are from Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico.
Daniel Esquivel, a lead singer, and accordionist is the band's current leader. The band had two bajo sexto players a few years ago, their founder, Manolo Morales. Polo Uras has quit Los Rieleros to form his own band, La Maquina Nortea.
Los Rieleros del Norte recordings have gone on to become regional Mexican music classics. Songs include "Amor Prohibido," "No le Digas a Nadie," and "En la Puerta de Esa Casa".
The Rieleros' most recent album, Que el Mundo Ruede, was released in July 2005. In 2006, they published Siempre Imitado Jamas Igualado. In 2007, they released Ven Y Dime 25 anos, which included the single Un Juego.
As previously stated, Manolo Morales, the band's actual founder, and namer is not Manolo Morales. He asserts this and has taken legal action to secure the name Los Rieleros del Norte.
An unknown individual has declined to go to court over the name's lawful ownership. However, ManuelMeo Lujan from Pecos, Mexico, has been identified as the group's founder.
