Kenny Aronoff (born on March 7, 1953, in Albany, New York) is an American drummer who gained recognition for his versatile and powerful drumming style. He has had a successful career playing with numerous renowned musicians and bands. Aronoff's interest in music began at an early age. He studied classical music at the University of Massachusetts and Indiana University, where he graduated in 1976.
In 1980, Aronoff joined John Cougar's band, where he played drums for 17 years. Throughout his career, he has collaborated and performed with a wide range of artists, including the Smashing Pumpkins, Bob Seger, Willie Nelson, John Fogerty, Michelle Branch, Tony Iommi, Melissa Etheridge, Jerry Lee Lewis, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joe Satriani, and Jon Bon Jovi, among others.
In 2016, Rolling Stone ranked him number 66 on their list of the 100 greatest drummers of all time. Modern Drummer named him the "#1 Pop/Rock Drummer" and "#1 Studio Drummer" for five consecutive years. Outside of his musical career, Aronoff has also been involved in education. He served as an Associate Professor of Percussion at Indiana University from 1993 to 1997.
