Karan Choudhary (born on November 11, 1989 in Faridabad, India) is an Indian-American actor and filmmaker who has made a name for himself in the independent film industry.
He is the creator of several acclaimed short films, including New York’d, The Timepiece, and Swiped Out. He is also a trained actor who has appeared in various TV shows and movies, such as Bull, Main Justice, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
Inspired by Bollywood movies and Hollywood stars, such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Tom Cruise, and Leonardo DiCaprio, Choudhary developed an interest in acting and filmmaking at a young age. In 2013, he decided to move to New York to further his education and career. He applied and got accepted to The Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre, one of the most prestigious acting schools in the world. After graduating from his two-year program in 2015, Choudhary began auditioning for roles in TV shows and movies.
He made his directorial debut in 2016 with Schmactor, a short comedy film about an aspiring actor who struggles to get auditions. He wrote, directed, produced, edited, and starred in the film, which was well received by critics and audiences. In 2018, he released his third short comedy film called New York’d. The film was a huge success and was accepted in over 25 film festivals. It received eight nominations and five wins in various categories, such as Best Comedy Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography.
