Paul-Alain Leclerc popularly known as Julien Clerc is an actor and composer. He was born on October 4, 1947 in Paris, France. He is most renowned for his music and his role in the movies, On connaît la chanson (1997), Enchanted Interlude (2000), and A Girl Cut in Two (2007).
Clerc grew up listening to classical music. He began to learn the piano at six. At thirteen, he was so good that he could play everything he heard on the radio by ear.
During high school and university education, Clerc met some important people including Maurice Vallet and Etienne Roda-Gil. The duo went on to become his main songwriters. Upon signing a record deal with Pathé Marconi, Clerc changed his name to Julien Clerc. In May 1968, Clerc released his first album, an album which went on to win the Charles Cros Academy Record Award.
In 1972, Clerc was casted for the role of a musician in a telefilm. Following this project, he took on various acting roles and continued at that pace throughout the ‘70s. Through this time, Clerc continued to make music in the background. In 1974, Clerc was awarded five gold records for the total outstanding sales of his previous albums. In November 2003, Clerc was named a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador at a ceremony in Paris.
