Dame Julia Mary Walters DBE, best known as Julie Walters, is an award-winning English actress, comedian, and author best known for her work in film and television. She was born in Edgbaston, Birmingham, England, on February 22, 1950. Julie began her screen acting career in the mid-1970s when she appeared in the TV series Second City Firsts and The Liver Birds, but she became famous in 1983 when she was cast as the protagonist Rita in the film Educating Rita. She has since been a regular on the TV series Indian Summers, National Treasure, The Jury, Dinnerladies, Melissa, Jake's Progress, and Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV. Her filmography includes Mary Poppins Returns, Mamma Mia!, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Sherlock Gnomes, and Paddington 2, but she is best known for starring in all installments of the Harry Porter film series alongside Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Michael Gambon, Domhnall Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes. Throughout her acting career, Julia has won multiple awards including seven BAFTA Awards for Best Actress and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role and a Golden Globes Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical.
