Born on November 7, 1943, Roberta Joan Mitchell, or simply known as Joni came from Fort Macleod, Alberta, Canada. Her music was well-known back in the ‘70s, where she was known as a serious and sensitive woman. She had the gift of song writing about love and life. At a young age of nine, she was stricken with polio. While in the hospital, she began singing for other patients, which started her musical progress.
She learned to play guitar by herself with the help from an instruction book by Pete Seeger. She married Chuck Mitchell in 1965, after which she started performing using the name Joni Mitchell. In 1965, Joni made high-profile performances in New York City. Her self-titled acoustic album was released under Reprise label in 1967.
