About Jon Klassen
Jon Klassen is an author, animator, and illustrator born on November 29, 1981, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He earned a degree in animation for Sheridan College in 2005, before moving to Los Angeles. In 2005, he made an animated short with Daniel Rodrigues, An Eye for Annai. He has worked on the animation of several feature films, including Kung Fu Panda (2008) and Coraline (2009).
Jon was the art director for the 2009 animated music video of U2's I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight. In 2010, he received the Governor General's Award for English-language children's illustration for his work on the picture book Cats' Night Out, written by Carolyn Stutson. He also illustrated The Mysterious Howling by Maryrose Wood, the first novel in the HarperCollins series The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place.
The New York Times Book Review named his first solo picture book, I Want My Hat Back, as one of the 10 Best Illustrated Children's Books for 2011. In 2012, Jon won the American Caldecott Medal and the British Kate Greenaway Medal for This Is Not My Hat. He has collaborated with Mac Barnett, Lemony Snicket, and Carolyn Stutson.
