Jamie Cullum was born on August 20, 1979 in Rochford, Essex, England. His first album titled Heard Everything Before was released in 1999 but he could only afford to have 500 copies made. This ended up being a bonus for him, because now these original copies sell for hundreds of dollars. He graduated from Reading University and released Pointless Nostalgic, which turned out to be a best seller.
Cullum signed with Sony in 2003 and his album Twentysomething was released. He also received the Rising Star award at the British Jazz Awards. This brought him nationwide attention and at the end of the year he was the best selling jazz artist of the United Kingdom ever. He won the English Breakthrough Act award in 2004 at the BRIT awards, and at the 2005 BRIT awards he won Best Live Act and Best Male Artist.
Cullum was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2005, and he also won Artist of the Year at the BBC Jazz Awards. He also nabbed the Best British male at the Ronnie Scotts Jazz Awards in 2007. His biggest accolades, however, are a nomination for a Golden Globe Award for his music in Gran Torino as well as a nomination for the UK Jazz Artist of the Year at the Jazz FM awards in 2013.
