About Gene Wilder
Gene Wilder was an American theatre, television and movie actor, director, screenwriter, producer, singer, and author. He was born Jerome Silberman on the 11th of June, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S. He studied at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. In 1961, Wilder made his television debut, as a guest in the series “The Play of The Week”. In 1987, he appeared on the drama thriller “Bonnie and Clyde” starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. His first big role was on the movie “The Producers”, for which he got nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 1974, he acted in “Blazing Saddles” directed by Mel Brooks. Wilder co-wrote alongside Mel Brooks “Young Frankenstein”, in which he also starred. For that movie, the pair won an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. He landed one of his most recognizable roles in 1971, as Willy Wonka in “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”. Wilder played in dozens of televisions shows, movies and plays. His last acting performance was in 2003, it was a guest role on “Will & Grace” for which he received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor. He died at the age of 83 years old in 2016.
