Franz Ferdinand is a Scottish dance-rock and post punk revival band from Glasgow, Scotland. In 2001, singer and guitarist Alex Kapranos Huntley (March 20, 1972, age 48) and bassist Bob Hardy (August 16, 1980, age 39) were creating music together and eventually met pianist and double bass player Nick McCarthy (December 13, 1974, age 45). The trio then met drummer Paul Thomson (September 15, 1976, age 43) who became a part of the band and switched roles with McCarthy on the guitar. With a full line up, Franz Ferdinand began to record and practice in an abandoned warehouse that they called The Chateau. The band was gaining local popularity and eventually, the band earned a record label signing with Domino Recording Company. Franz Ferdinand then released their EP in 2003, which was no intended for release, titled ‘Darts of Pleasure’ which won the Philip Hall Radar Award at the NME Awards in 2004. In the same year, the band moved to Malmö, Sweden and recorded their hit single, ‘Take Me Out’. The single was the band’s breakthrough, hitting number 3 on the UK Charts. The single was also featured on the band’s debut album, ‘Franz Ferdinand’ which debuted at number 3 on the UK Albums Chart and number 12 on the Australian Albums Chart. The album was awarded a Mercury Music Prize in 2004 along with Franz Ferdinand winning and Ivor Novello Award in 2004 and two BRIT Awards in 2005. NME listed ‘Franz Ferdinand’ on their list of 100 Best Albums of All Time and was Grammy nominated for Best Alternative Album in 2005. Their sophomore album, ‘You Could Have It So Much Better’ which received a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. Their latest album, ‘Always Ascending’ arrived in 2018 with a new producer, Miaoux Miaoux born Julian Victor Corrie (June 20, 1985, age 34) and a new rock electronic pop influenced sound.
