Emily V. Gordon is an American writer and producer, born on May 3, 1979, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She is best known for co-writing the romantic comedy film, The Big Sick, for which she received an Oscar nomination. The Big Sick is based on her relationship with her husband and collaborator Kumail Nanjiani. Her first profession was as a therapist, but she soon changed directions and began organizing stand-up comedy shows for live audiences and on television, which eventually led to writing jobs. She created the comedy program The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail with co-hosts Kumail Nanjiani and Jonah Ray. Some of her notable works include teen-targeted web series Power Up and ExploreD as well as The Carmichael Show and The Indoor Kids. She co-wrote The Big Sick, a romantic comedy movie based on a true story, which was an Academy Award nominee for Best Original Screenplay.
