About The Doobie Brothers

birthplace Birthplace
San Jose, CA, United States
occupation Occupation
Music Group

The Doobie Brothers are a pop/rock band founded in San Jose, California in 1970 by composer and guitarist Tom Johnston and drummer John Hartman. They gained local popularity in the California biker gang scene and landed a deal with Warner Bros. Records in 1971. By their third release, “The Captain and Me” (1973) made big waves with Top Ten singles “China Groove” and “Long Train Runnin’”. With several lineup changes in 1976, the band released a full-length album “Takin’ It To The Streets”, which went platinum. The success went on with 1978’s “Minute By Minute”, and the band broke up during the early and mid-’80s before reuniting for a 1987 live show and a gold album “Cycles” that went out in 1989. They toured most of the ’90s and put out a documentary about their career in 2012. In 2014, they made a country album with guest appearances by Zac Brown and Chris Young and continued on a successful touring routine. In 2020 the band launched a 50th-anniversary release.
