About Culture
Jamaican roots reggae musical group, Culture, was founded in 1976. The group was originally made up of Joseph Hill, Roy Kenneth Dayes, and Albert Ralph Walker. Lead singer Joseph Hill, born January 22nd 1949 in Linstead, Jamaica, founded the band, originally called, the African Disciples. The iconic band debuted with the single, This Time, and caused a stir with their record Two Sevens Clash. Their album Africa Stand Alone, was released without authorisation, as were the leftovers of the Two Sevens Clash sessions. The band quickly released three remarkable albums: Harder Than the Rest, Cumbolo, and International Herb. Additional content was released on Trod On, and Production Something. Culture performed at the One Love Concert and toured with the backing band, the Revolutionaries. The band briefly broke up, but released the comeback albums, Culture at Work, and Culture in Culture. They continued their successful career releasing Good Things, Three Sides to My Story, and Wings of a Dove. Kenneth Dayes left the group, and was replaced by Reginald Taylor, and he was eventually replaced by Telford Nelson. After Hill released another solo album, Culture returned with the hit album, World Peace. After Hill passed, his son Kenyatta continues his legacy.
