Craig Theodore Nelson was born on April 4, 1944 in Spokane, Washington. He attended the drama program at the University of Arizona and continued on to take acting classes at night while being a security guard during the day. Nelson started out as a comedian alongside Barry Levinson, whom he used to perform with at “The Comedy Store.”

Nelson appeared in Silkwood with Meryl Streep in 1983. The same year, he played a lead role in All the Right Moves, in which he portrayed Tom Cruise’s football coach. This was a preview of his future lead role as a football coach in the show Coach, which began in 1989 and ended in 1997. He won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 1992 for his role in this series.

Nelson has appeared in numerous other productions, including the Poltergeist series, a music video by Garth Brooks, and a few episodes of CSI: NY. Nelson is the voice of Mr. Incredible in The Incredibles (2004) and its planned revival in 2018. He had a part in The Proposal in 2009, which featured Ryan Reynolds. His most recent prominent roles were that of Zeek Braverman in NBC’s Parenthood and the role of Guy in Netflix’s Grace and Frankie, in which he stars as Jane Fonda’s love interest.
