About Chris Difford
Christopher Henry Difford, known as Chris Difford, is an English musician renowned for his role as a founding member and prolific songwriter of the rock group Squeeze. He was born in Greenwich, London, England, on November 4, 1954.
Following Squeeze's initial disbandment in 1983, Difford continued his songwriting journey, contributing to projects for notable artists like Jools Holland, Elvis Costello, and Elton John. In 1985, Squeeze reunited, enjoying success with hits like "Hourglass" and "853-5937." Difford embarked on a solo career in 2003 with "I Didn't Get Where I Am," while also managing Bryan Ferry and The Strypes.
With a career spanning over 50 years, Difford's lyrical prowess, often in collaboration with Glenn Tilbrook, has produced timeless classics such as "Tempted," "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)," and "Cool for Cats."
An advocate for music education and collaboration, Difford initiated the Chris Difford Songwriting Retreat in 2014, fostering creativity in the English countryside. His dedication to the industry extends to his podcast series, "I Never Thought It Would Happen," launched in 2021 with the charity Help Musicians, where he engages with music luminaries about their experiences in the industry. In 2017, Difford shared his life story in his autobiography, "Some Fantastic Place: My Life In and Out of Squeeze."
