Antônio Carlos Santos de Freitas (popularly known as Carlinhos Brown) is a Brazilian musician and master percussionist who was born on November 23rd 1962 in Candeal Pequeno, Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. He is the son-in-law of Marieta Severo and Chico Buarque and the brother-in-law of actress Silvia Buarque and Luísa Buarque de Hollanda.
Antonio took the name Brown from the Black Panther H. Rap Brown and he learned percussion from his mentor Mestre Pintado do Bongô (Osvaldo Alves da Silva). His first composition to hit the radio was 1984 Visão Do Ciclope which was recorded by Luis Caldas. He later joined Caetano Veloso’s band and released Meia Lua Inteira in 1989. Over 200 of his songs have been recorded by interpreters like Marisa Monte, Gal Costa, Daniela Mercury, Cássia Eller, Daúde, and Sepultura.
Antonio is best known for his work on Rio (2011), Rio 2 (2014) and Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997).
