Carcass is an English extreme metal band that was formed in 1985 in Liverpool, England. The band was formed by vocalist/guitarist Bill Steer and drummer Ken Owen. Joined by Jeff Walker as a vocalist and bassist for Carcass, the band signed on Earache Records. As a trio, the band released two albums, ‘Reek of Putrefaction’ in 1988 and ‘Symphonies of Sickness’ in 1989. Carcass was then joined by a second guitarist, Michael Amott, and helped the band produce ‘Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious’ in 1991 and an EP titled ‘Tools of Trade’ released in 1992. The now quartet goregrind band landed a major-label signing with Sony and released their most popular album, ‘Heartwork’ which was released in 1994. In the same year, Amott left the band and was replaced with Carlo Regadas. The band went on to record ‘Swansong’ in 1996 which was their final album as all members of the band went on to work with different bands. Carcass then reunited in 2007 simply as a live act. It was not until 2013 that the band independently released another album, ‘Surgical Steel’ in 2013.
