Boredoms is a Japanese noise and avant-garde band formed in 1986. It originally consisted of vocalist Yamatsuka Eye, drummer Yoshikawa Toyohito, bassist Hira and guitarist Yamamoto Seiichi. The band made its debut with an EP titled “Anal by Anal” in 1986, followed shortly after by “Osozeran No Stooges Kyo” in 1988. Two years later, the band issued “Soul Discharge”, featuring drummer Yoshimi Yokota. The band rose in popularity, and by 1993 they had signed a deal with Warner, which prompted the release of the full-length “Pop Tatari” later that year. In 1994 a collection of their first two EP’s came out as “Onanie Bomb Meets Sex Pistols” in the U.S. 1995 saw the release of the “Chocolate Synthesizer” LP and a U.S. tour including a main stage appearance at Lollapalooza. Even though the band’s U.S. popularity started fading away in the late 90s, Boredoms carried on in 1998 with the “Super Go!!!!!” EP and the long-player “Super Ae”. The early 2000s saw electronic remix collaborations with U.N.K.L.E., Ken Ishii, and DJ Krush, and also an electronic-oriented album titled “Vision Creation Newsun” (2001). After going on hiatus, the band returned in 2005 with the studio album “Seadrum/House of Sun”.
