Bob James is an American jazz keyboardist, arranger, and record producer born in Marshall, Missouri on December 25, 1939. He has won several Grammy Awards for his music and a number of other awards, including a George Benson Lifetime Achievement Award, an International Achievement Award,  and others. James started playing the piano at the age of 4 and learned how to play the trumpet, timpani, and percussion while in high school. In the early 50’s he won a number of Missouri State Fair competitions for his piano playing. While studying in college he would play free jazz with other musicians in Detroit and Ann Arbor. His band entered the Notre Dame Collegiate Jazz Festival in 1962 and won the competition resulting in James getting an album deal with Mercury Records. He released his debut album in 1963 titled Bold Conceptions and has since released a number of other solo albums, including One, Two, Three, Heads, Lucky Seven, Sign of the Times, Hands Down, Foxie, Obsession, Ivory Coast, Restless and others. He has also been part of many collaboration albums, including One on One, Two of a Kind, Flesh and Blood, Christmas Eyes, Just Friends, The New Cool and many more.
