Blur is a British alternative rock band regarded as one of the defining acts of an early 90s musical style known as Britpop. It was formed in Colchester, Essex in 1989 and consisted of vocalist/keyboardist Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James, and drummer Dave Rowntree. The band gained notoriety with a few hit singles from 1991’s “Leisure” LP. While 1993’s full-length album “Modern Life is Rubbish” was only a moderate success, it paved the way for “Parklife” to become a triple-platinum album and a hit in both the U.S. and the U.K. Facing a tougher competition from similar bands, 1996’s “The Great Escape” didn’t measure up to its predecessor. A change of sound then materialized in “Blur” (1996), the band’s first album to make waves in the U.S. After the release of 2003’s “Think Thank”, Blur decided to disband, only reuniting for live shows and the release of retrospective material like “Midlife” (2009), the “Blur 21” box-set (2011). Some high-profile live acts included a headlining spot in 2010’s Glastonbury festival and the closing of the London Olympics in 2012. In 2015 the band surprised its fans with a brand new studio effort titled “The Magic Whip”.
