Big Big Train is a British progressive rock band formed in 1990 in Bournemouth, Dorset, England. Although it has undergone many lineup changes, it originally consisted of core members Gregory Spawton and Andy Poole, who recruited keyboardist Ian Cooper, drummer Steve Hughes, and vocalist Martin Read. After releasing some independent demos, the band managed to sign with Giant Electric Pea and issued its full-length album debut “Goodbye to the Age of Steam” in 1994. After gaining some traction and a distribution deal in Japan, the band released “English Boy Wonders” in 1997 and took some time before returning to the studio in 2002. The band later recruited vocalist Sean Filkins and established itself among prestigious British progressive acts like XTC and Spock’s Beard. In 2011, they re-issued their debut album, and two years later they won a Progressive Music Award. In 2015 they returned to the stage after maintaining themselves on a studio-only basis for a decade and followed up with the albums “Folklore” (2016) and “Grimspound” (2016).
