Banners is the stage name for Michael Joseph Nelson, an English musician born in Liverpool, UK. Nelson realized his love of music, singing in the Liverpool Cathedral Choir. In 2015 he was signed with Island Records after contacting producer Stephen Kozmeniuk to help him work on his sound. That same year he released his first single “Ghosts” under his initial stage name Raines and his second single “Shine a Light” under his current stage name Banners. “Shine a Light” made it to the Billboard Canada Rock and Rock Airplay charts and was used on the soundtrack of the popular sports video game FIFA 16. He released a third single in 2015 titled “Start a Riot” that made it on the Billboard Hot Rock Songs chart. Nelson released his first EP titled Banners in 2016 that reached number 67 on the Billboard Canadian Albums Chart and in 2017 released his second EP titled Empires on Fire. His songs have been used in several television shows and movies including, Lucifer, The Good Doctor, and Love, Simon.
