Amy Sherman-Palladino is an American television writer, director, and producer born in Los Angeles, California on January 17, 1966. She is best known for being the creator of the television series Gilmore Girls, Bunheads, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She is the founder of the production company Dorothy Parker Drank Here Productions. From the age of four she was trained as a classical ballet dancer, but gave up dancing when she was asked to write for the television show Roseanne. She has been the writer, producer, or director on the shows City, Roseanne, Can’t Hurry Love, Love and Marriage, Over the Top, Veronica’s Closet, Gilmore Girls, The Return of Jezebel James, Bunheads, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. For her work she has received four Primetime Emmy Awards, and the Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television. Sherman-Palladino is the first woman to win a Primetime Emmy in the comedy writing and directing categories.
