About Alejandra Vasquez
Alejandra Vasquez is a Mexican-American filmmaker and producer, best known for winning the Sundance Special Jury Prize and directing the feature-length documentary, Going Varsity in Mariachi. She was an Associate Producer for Us Kids (2020).
Growing up in West Texas, Alejandra studied film at UC Berkeley. She has worked on many documentary film and series projects predominantly on topics of immigration and activism. In 2021, she directed “When It's Good, It's Good". She also directed "Folk Frontera" in 2022 alongside Sam Osborn. The film won the SXSW 2022 Jury Award for Texas Short and the San Diego International Shorts Fest Best Social Impact Award. In 2023, Alejandra made her feature-length directorial debut with "Going Varsity in Mariachi".
As a series producer for Topic Studios, she has completed a four-part series Night Shift and ten-part series Eating. She was producer of the Sundance Special Jury Award winner series "Mantangi/Maya/M.I.A." in 2018 and Kathleen Bryan Edwards Human Rights Award winner "US Kids" in 2020.
