Maria Olvido Gara Jova famously known as 'Alaska' was born June 13, 1963 in Mexico City, Mexico. She is a Spanish Mexican singer popular in Spain and Hispanic America.
Alaska’s music combines electronic, pop, synthpop and dance pop. She was one of the founding members of the La Movida Madrileña, the cultural and artistic movement that followed the end of Francoist Spain.
Alaska has been involved in several music bands since the late 1970s. She was among Kaka de Luxe in 1977, one of the first Spanish punk rock bands. She played rhythm guitar in the band. She left the band and joined Alaska y los Pegamoides in 1980 as a lead singer. She left Alaska y los Pegamoides for Alaska y Dinarama in 1983. They produced their first album 'Canciones Profanas'. Their Last album 'Fan Fatal' was a tribute to all fans and bands they loved. She left the band and hosted a Children's program loved by viewers, La Bola de Cristal (The crystal ball).
In 1989, the Spanish electro pop band Fangoria was formed. Their first album was Salto Mortal with Hispavox. Since 2011, she starred as herself in the MTV Spain reality series Alaska y Mario,
