38 Special is an American rock band, formed back in 1974, in Jacksonville, Florida. The band was formed by Don Barnes and Donnie Van Zant who met while living next to each other. After playing in clubs between the period from 1975 to 1976, 38 Special finally met with Peter Rudge, who was the manager of the well-known rock band The Who, who set them up to open shows for major artists such as Kiss, Foghat, and Peter Frampton. In May 1977, they released their debut, self-titled album. They have released eleven more albums since then, with their Drivetrain, released in 2004, being their most recent one. The band has changed its member line-up a few times over the years. Some of their greatest hits include Back Where You Belong and You Keep Runnin’ Away.
