- Bob Evans has partnered with actress JoAnna Garcia Swisher, its first campaign with her, to share back-to-school meal tips and organization hacks.
- The tie-in is built around a brand-commissioned survey of 2,000 U.S. parents: 66% feel "overextended" getting dinner on the table, and 71% report higher back-to-school spending than last year.
- A companion giveaway runs through Aug. 26, offering 50 winners a prize bundle with a lunch box, calendar, water bottle, school-supply gift card, and Bob Evans products.
- This is Swisher's third straight year fronting a back-to-school brand push, following campaigns with Post-it/Scotch Brand (2024) and McCormick (2023).
Bob Evans is teaming up with Sweet Magnolias star JoAnna Garcia Swisher to help stressed-out parents get through the back-to-school season, the refrigerated food brand announced July 29.
The partnership, Bob Evans’s first with Swisher, is grounded in a new survey the brand commissioned from Talker Research covering 2,000 U.S. parents of school-aged kids.
Per Jason Roche, vice president of Bob Evans Farms’ portfolio, 66% of parents feel “overextended” just getting dinner on the table, while 71% say back-to-school spending has climbed compared to last year.
Swisher, a mother of two and co-founder of Rolling Clover, is sharing practical tips: night-before backpack and lunch prep, a color-coded shared family calendar, and quick weeknight dinners built around Bob Evans Macaroni & Cheese and Mashed Potatoes.
“So much of this busy season comes from the things that matter most to families,” Swisher said in the announcement. “I’m all about real, convenient solutions that help free up the week.”
The campaign also includes a giveaway: through Aug. 26, fifty winners chosen via Instagram will each receive an OmieBox lunch box, a Skylight Calendar, a Yeti water bottle, a school-supply gift card bundle, and six months of Bob Evans products.
Swisher isn’t new to back-to-school marketing; she fronted a Post-it and Scotch Brand campaign in 2024 and partnered with McCormick in 2023, making Bob Evans her latest seasonal tie-in rather than a first foray into the space.
For Bob Evans, the deal continues a pattern of leaning on recognizable faces: actor and TV host Alfonso Ribeiro served as its longtime spokesperson before the brand handed the role to a contest winner in 2024.
The move also lands amid a wider wave of celebrity-fronted back-to-school pushes this year. Journeys tapped Madison Bailey for its multi-character “Turn It Up” campaign, Great Clips built its push around magician Justin Flom and his daughters.
Takeaways
Bob Evans is pairing a data-driven pitch (that 66% “overextended” stat) with a relatable mom-actress rather than reviving the single-spokesperson model it ran with Ribeiro for years. It’s a shift toward moment-specific talent tied to a real parent pain point instead of a season-spanning brand face.
For Swisher, it’s another notch in a growing specialty: she’s now fronted three different back-to-school brand campaigns in three years, each timed to the same seasonal spike in parental stress.
Does swapping a long-term spokesperson model for one-off, seasonal partnerships build stronger recall than sticking with a single face the way Bob Evans did with Ribeiro? With Swisher now the face of her third different back-to-school campaign in three years, does that repetition dilute her pull or make her the go-to “back-to-school mom” for brands?
