Scottish synth-pop trio Chvrches has officially signed a global recording contract with independent collective Futures Music Group.

To launch this new chapter, the group premiered their scathing new rock anthem, “Roses,” as BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record. The single marks their first release in three years following their 2023 standalone track “Over” and five years after their 2021 studio album Screen Violence.

To celebrate the return, the band will perform two intimate shows: October 26, 2026, at Assumption Studios in Glasgow, and October 29, 2026, at St Matthias Church in London.

The release follows a major creative cycle for frontwoman Lauren Mayberry, who toured extensively behind her debut solo record, Vicious Creature, issued via Island Records and EMI.

Over their career, Chvrches achieved chart-topping milestones across the UK and US with Glassnote Records and Virgin EMI.

For their new era, the trio keeps their seasoned executive core intact. Lunatic Entertainment continue to manage the band. Touring operations remain divided between TBA Agency for the Americas and Creative Artists Agency (CAA) across the rest of the globe.

The signing mirrors broader industry shifts toward career models tailored to an artist’s specific trajectory. While emerging performers often scale through major-label backing, such as Sian Imani joining Warner Music Group, or develop via focused indie imprints like Ava Liv Mabry at Blue Highway Records, veteran headliners are increasingly gravitating toward partner-driven collectives.

Futures Music Group, founded in 2024 by Derek Davies of Neon Gold Records and Dave Wallace of Avenue A, operates on transparent royalty structures and long-term artist equity rather than legacy master copyright control.

Chvrches joins an impressive, rapidly growing label roster that includes Lykke Li, Mt. Joy, Cavetown, Phantogram, and The Knocks.

Takeaways

Chvrches’ move to Futures Music Group illustrates how veteran indie and electronic acts are taking back control after fulfilling long-term multi-album major label deals.

By prioritizing master ownership and operational transparency over conventional upfront advances, the band retains complete authority over their output.

Furthermore, Lauren Mayberry’s successful solo venture did not dissolve the band; instead, it cleared creative space for the group to reconvene with renewed energy and a heavier rock-forward identity, proving that modern bands can balance individual autonomy with long-term collective success.

How will an equity-first label model shape the frequency and creative direction of Chvrches’ upcoming album campaign? Will more mid-career festival headliners abandon traditional major label ecosystems in favor of independent collectives like Futures?
