Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren has signed on as a brand ambassador and equity partner with Ballislife Drink, the sports hydration company behind Ballislife HYDRO, growing the brand’s roster of NBA athlete partners.

As part of the deal, Ballislife HYDRO will release a Jalen Duren signature can, built to strengthen the brand’s footprint in Michigan and other basketball-focused markets while leaning on Duren’s rising profile among fans.

Duren, 22, capped his fourth NBA season by earning his first All-Star and All-NBA selections, averaging 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds a game. He is the second-youngest player in NBA history to reach 1,000 career rebounds and the ninth to record at least 200 assists and 100 blocks before turning 21.

Ballislife’s chief business officer, Melcolm Ruffin, pointed to fans’ long-standing appreciation for Duren’s athleticism and skill on the court. CEO Matt Rodriguez said the brand has followed Duren’s career since his early days and sees him as part of the next wave of NBA stars Ballislife has always celebrated.

Unlike a standard paid endorsement, Ballislife HYDRO’s athlete deals give players equity in the company. This marks Duren’s first partnership with Ballislife. His most notable prior endorsement dates to 2022, when he signed a rookie sneaker and apparel deal with Nike.

For Ballislife, Duren joins a growing line of NBA equity partners, following guard Darius Garland, Grizzlies wing Desmond Bane, and Hornets guard Coby White, each fronting their own signature HYDRO cans this year.

The signing adds to a busy year of athlete-brand tie-ins. Dwyane Wade recently deepened his investment in Cann with a new flavor collaboration, while Josh Hart fronted a comedic campaign for Beyond Immerse.

The deal lands as Duren remains in a restricted free-agency standoff with the Pistons, who have reportedly offered him a deal in the $35–38 million per year range as he pushes for a bigger long-term payday off his breakout season.

Takeaways

This is another brand betting on equity instead of a flat paycheck. Ballislife isn’t just paying Duren to wear a logo, it’s making him a stakeholder, tying its own upside to his continued rise on the court (and his looming free-agency payday).

The timing is notable too. Duren is cashing in on peak market value while his free-agency future with the Pistons is still unresolved, a reminder that a player’s business momentum doesn’t always wait for his roster situation to settle.

For Ballislife, stacking Garland, Bane, White, and now Duren onto one hydration platform starts to look less like a niche basketball media brand’s side project and more like a mini athlete-ownership collective.

Does tying athletes to equity instead of a flat fee make a brand’s roster feel more like a team than a marketing campaign? With Garland, Bane, White, and Duren all on board, is Ballislife quietly building the next major sports beverage challenger?
