Melanie De Biasio, born on July 12th, 1978 in Charleroi, Belgium is a Belgian jazz musician and singer. Her musical journey began at the age of three where she began to learn ballet and playing the western concert flute. At the age of 12 she joined a musical band called the Ensemble de l’Harmonie de Charleroi and toured Canada. She cites her musical influences as coming from artists and bands such as Nirvana.
At the age of 15, Melanie began to play jazz with a band called Harmadik Ful and studied music at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. She then toured in Russia and earned a touring spot with Belgian jazz musician Steve Houben. Melanie has performed and collaborated with famous Belgian jazz musicians such as Pascal Mohy, Michel Herr, Jan de Hassm and Philippe Aerts.
In 2007 she released her first album called A Stomach Is Burning for the label Igloo. The album received critical acclaim and won a Les Octaves de la Musique award for Best Jazz album. In 2013 she collaborated with jazz saxophonist Charles Neville for a performance of the song “Paradise Isn’t Enough.” In the same year she released her second album on the label PIAS called No Deal. In 2015 she headlined the Montreux Jazz Festival in Tokyo. Melanie released a new EP called Blackened Cities in 2016.
