Shekhinah is a South African singer who was born Shekhinah Thandi Donnell on October 2, 1994, in Durban. She began getting into music when she was a child. She started to gain fame when she competed in the 7th edition of the South African reality show IDOLS, where she ended up being top 32. She decided to come back to the competition on its 8th season in 2012 and she achieved top 6. This platform gave her enough recognition to start performing in several corporate and public events. In 2016 she released two POP and R&B singles “Back to the Beach” which was No. 1 on the singles chart and earned her an MTV Africa Music Award. A year later she released her first album named “Rosegold”, which ended up being certified platinum and winning Best Female Artist in Southern Africa and Songwriter of the year at the MTV EMA. The singles “Suited” and “Please Mr.” were also platinum. Her success landed her opening show for many international artists like John Legend and Ed Sheeran. In 2021 she released her second album called “Trouble in Paradise”.
