Ricky Retro, a DJ and a producer, made his debut in 2018 as a satirical representation of the middle-American party animal in the form of a cowboy hat-wearing, Budweiser-guzzling party animal. His image didn't exactly match up with his music, but his throbbing tech-house tracks were set apart by samples of his own thick Southern accent and occasional Lynyrd Skynyrd guitar riffs. Early tracks such as "OMG" and "Merica" were released for the first time in 2018, and by the following year, the DJ was already performing at festivals and opening for Skrillex. Singles such as "Cocaine Cowboy," "DALE," and "Freak on Me," a song featuring guest vocals from Icona Pop, were all released in 2019.
