Plush is an alternative rock band that was formed in the city of Cape Town, South Africa, in 1996. In addition to playing bass, Rory Eliot sings and plays rhythm guitar in the band, Emelio Gassibe is responsible for playing the bass, and Carl Wegelin is an accomplished guitarist of the band. Plush first performed together in 1996, and turned their attention to the professional music scene in 2000. Two years later, they were victorious in the tournament known as the National Battle of the Bands, beating over more than 500 bands from all around South Africa to claim first place. The group was saddened by the news of Chas Smit's passing away, who was a member of the band.
