Byron Buxton is a professional baseball player born on December 18, 1993, in Baxley, Georgia. He played baseball for Appling County High School, where he helped the team win its first state title and once threw a 99 mph fastball. Buxton was committed to playing for the University of Georgia but instead was drafted as the second overall pick in the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft by the Minnesota Twins. He debuted in Minor League Baseball in 2012 with the Gulf Coast League Twins. Buxton made his Major League debut in 2015. In his debut season, Buxton appeared in 46 games and had a batting average of .209. In 2017, Buxton received several awards for his performance that season, including the Wilson MLB Defensive Player of the Year and the Rawlings AL Platinum Glove. In April 2021, he was named the American League Player of the Month.
