Originating in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1982, the synth-pop group Propaganda was formed by Ralf Dörper, Andreas Thein, and Susanne Freytag. After recording some material together and later moving to the UK to further their pursuits, the group released the single “Dr. Mabuse”, which charted highly in both the UK and in Germany. Propaganda later added two members to their lineup, Claudia Brücken and Michael Mertens, just as Andreas Thein left the group. They followed the change up with their second hit single “Duel”, which was released in 1985. Propaganda finally debuted their first album in July of that year, titled A Secret Wish and jumping to #16 on the UK Album Chart.
Shortly after, Propaganda released Wishful Thinking, a remix album¸ and later, 1234 in 1990. Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, the band continued to split up, change members, reunite, and release material. As of 2011, however, the band mates have declined to work together to record new material, despite the release of the deluxe edition of their album Wishful Thinking in 2012.
