Melanie Fiona Hallim (July 4, 1983), better known as Melanie Fiona, is a Canadian R&B singer and songwriter. Native to Toronto, Ontario, she began her singing career in 2002 with all-girl music trio X-Quisite. The band was nominated for a Juno Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. Melanie debuted herself as a solo act with her first album in 2009 titled ‘The Bridge’. Her single off the album, ‘Give It To Me Right’ landed on number 20 on the Canadian Hot 100 Chart. One of her most popular songs, ‘It Kills Me’ helped Melanie break through as an artist with 48 million views on YouTube. The single stayed at the top of the Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop song chart for nine weeks and landed her a Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. ‘The Bridge’ was also nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding New Artist. In 2011, Melanie released her single, ‘Fool For You’ with CeeLo Green which won her two of her first Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance and Best R&B Song. Her next single in 2011, ‘4AM’ was also a huge radio hit and currently has 13.8 million plays on Spotify. In 2012, she released her second album, ‘The MF Life’ which features big R&B names such J. Cole, John Legend and Nas. Melanie received another Grammy nomination in the same year for ‘The Wrong Side of a Love Song’ from her second album.
