Joseph Frank Pesci was born on February 9, 1943 in Newark, New Jersey. He was first interested in music and released an album titled Little Joe Sure Can Sing! in 1968. He connected with actor Frank Vincent and they deemed themselves the comedy twosome Vincent and Pesci. He and Frank also appeared together in 1976’s Death Collector. Pesci got a lucky break in 1979 when prominent Hollywood gurus Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro noticed him in Death Collector and wanted him to star in Raging Bull. This film won him the BAFTA Film Award for Newcomer to Leading Film Roles, and he was also nominated for an Academy Award. He was friends with the late Michael Jackson, even appearing in Jackson’s film Moonwalker.
Perhaps one of Pesci’s most well-known roles was that of Leo in Lethal Weapon and the subsequent sequels throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s. In 1990, he joined Scorsese and De Niro again to star in Goodfellas, which he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He also played the part of Harry Lime in Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). He also played the top role in My Cousin Vinny, which featured other stars including Ralph Macchio and Marisa Tomei.
Joe Pesci has won numerous awards and been nominated for many others, including international awards. He decided to stop acting in 1999 to pursue music and medicine; however, he has made small appearances and is set to work with Scorsese and De Niro yet again in The Irishman, a future Netflix-hosted film.
