What’s the easiest and least expensive way for my nonprofit to benefit from a celebrity’s popularity?

My nonprofit has a fundraising event in the works, and we’d like to utilize a celebrity to attract donors. What’s the easiest and least expensive way to benefit from celebrity cachet?

First of all, easiest and least expensive is not always the best route to go, but I understand where you’re coming from. Just make sure that you are making a decision that will benefit your organization. If you don’t have the time or budget to put into a particular fundraising avenue, it may not be the best use of your funds.

That being said, I’ve found that auctioning autographs is a great way to go. The least expensive way to do this is to contact the celebrity’s representative and request that some items be signed and returned. It requires very little from the celeb. Your expenses primarily include the cost to ship the items to them and back.

If you’ve got a little more room in your budget, you could also request that the celebrity provide in-person autographs for a fee at your event. You’ll need to plan for travel and accommodations for the celeb. But it’s still a relatively easy way to raise funds.
