James Blunt was born James Hillier Blount on February 22, 1974 in Tidworth, Wiltshire, England. As a child, he took piano and violin lessons and at 14 he began playing the guitar and writing his own songs. James Blunt attended the University of Bristol under sponsorship from the British Army and after graduation he was required to serve a minimum of four years. While in the army, he would work on demos during his off time. Shortly after leaving the army in 2002, James Blunt was signed to EMI Publishing and Twenty First Artists Management, but had difficulty finding a record deal. 4 Non Blondes singer Linda Perry heard Blunt’s promotional tape and invited him to play at South by Southwest Music Festival, after which she singed him to her recently launched Custard Records label. He released his debut album Back to Bedlam in 2003 and toured as the opening act for artists such as Katie Melua, Elton John, Llyod Cole and the Commotions and Jason Mraz. He released two singles “High” and “Wiseman” which failed to garner much attention, yet his third single “You’re Beautiful” became his breakout hit, reaching #1 in both the UK and the US and earning Blunt two Brit Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards. Back to Bedlam eventually sold 11 million copies and was entered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest selling album in one year.

James Blunt followed up the success of Back to Bedlam with the albums All the Lost Souls (2007) and Some Kind of Trouble (2010.) His most recent album, Moon Landing, was released on July 11, 2013. On September 16, 2014, he announced Moon Landing would be re-released on November 3rd. The new edition will be titled Moon Landing: Apollo Edition and will feature 19 tracks as well as a live DVD recorded during Blunt’s performance in the 2014 edition of the Paléo Festival.
