Frank Turner (December 28, 1981) is an English folk punk and acoustic rock singer-songwriter from Meonstoke, Hampshire, United Kingdom. A former member of punk band Million Dead, Turner wanted to pursue a more acoustic-folk sound after the band split in 2005. With a punk repertoire, Turner was signed to Xtra Mile Recordings, releasing his first solo EP, ‘Campfire Punkrock’ in 2006 followed by his debut album, ‘Sleep is for the Week’. His second album, ‘Love Ire & Song’ arrived in 2008 with a string of festival appearances at Y Not Festival, the Cambridge Folk Festival, Glastonbury and the Reading and Leeds Festival among many others. Tuner’s third studio album, ‘Poetry of the Deed’ arrived in 2009 and landed on the number 36 spot on the UK Albums Chart. The album’s single, ‘The Road’, was given recognition by BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe calling it the “Hottest Record in the World Today”. This led to Frank’s sold out show at the 02 Shepherds Bush Empire in 2009 along with touring around the U.K. and Europe. Turner’s punk-rock folk sound led to him receiving a number of awards such as the No Half Measures Award from Kerrang! Awards in 2010 and to AIM Awards in 2011 for Best Live Act and Hardest Working Artist. Even more so, Turner was nominated in 2011 and 2012 as Best Solo Artist and Best Band Blog or Twitter at the Shockwaves NME Awards along with a nomination for the Best International Breakthrough at the Bandit Rock Awards in 2011. Turner’s most recent album, ‘No Man’s Land’, was released in 2019 and will be followed by a live album that is set for release in 2020.
