Born in November 12, 1953, Baaba Maal came from Podor, Senegal. His musical genres are Yela and Worldbeat. Being born to a fisherman’s caste, Baaba shouldn’t have become a musical performer. However, he pursued his musical endeavours and came to be known as a musical superstar from Senegal. His early musical influences are their traditional music, American R&B, and soul. He also went to explore jazz and blues music.
In 1998, he released his LP “Wango” which featured elements of pop and reggae. Other albums followed such as “Baayo,” “Lam Toro,” “Firin’ in Fouta,” and the 1998’s “Nomad Soul” which was recorded under Palm Records. His latest release was the album “Traveler” released in 2015 under Marathon Artists.
